How we met
Our story began unexpectedly on the dating app Coffee Meets Bagel. Alvin’s profile had only two photos, which, as Ada would later joke, didn’t quite match his real-life appearance. But somehow, we connected and began messaging. After a week or two of getting to know each other, we decided to meet in person at Something Sweet Café.
Ada, always the punctual one, arrived early and found herself alone in the quiet café. Alvin, on the other hand, got caught in Surrey’s unpredictable traffic and arrived later than planned.
As Alvin entered the cafe, nerves were already kicking in. Droplets of sweat started to form on his forehead as he mustered the courage to approach Ada. Apologizing profusely for being late, he feared he had already messed things up.
But as we sat down and began to talk over food and drinks, the nerves started to fade. Conversation flowed effortlessly, ranging from favorite hobbies to family values, faith, and even our shared experiences in ministry.
Alvin admits he was so nervous he doesn’t remember much about what was talked about except that his back was aching from being kept up all night by his cat. To Ada, it seemed like Alvin was trying to make an early exit, especially since he mentioned that his parking meter was running out. She was confused, but intrigued at the same time. Despite the momentary awkwardness, they stayed for another hour, talking and laughing.
Before parting ways, Alvin nervously asked if she would be open to a second date. To his relief, Ada said yes. The rest, as they say, is history.
Since then, we’ve shared countless adventures — everything from visiting different local cafés to bowling, hiking, and going on a short term mission trip to Panama together. Though that first date was full of nerves and mixed signals, it marked the start of something special. Our journey together continues and we couldn’t be more excited to take this next step as we say, "I do," with all of you by our side.
